Important · Please read these instructions carefully in conjunction with the illustrations (pages 3, 40, 41 and 42) before using the appliance. · If using the Philishave system for the first time, please bear in mind that your skin may need about two weeks to become fully accustomed to the new shaving method. · Regular cleaning and maintenance ensures optimal performance and prolongs the shaver's working life. · Before using the shaver for the first time and also if the shaver has not been used for a month or more, charge it for at least 24 hours. · Do not allow the shaver to come into contact with water. · Do not leave the appliance in a very warm place or in direct sunlight. The built-in rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries contain substances which may pollute the environment. When discarding your appliance in due course, please ensure that the batteries are separated from the normal household refuse and that they are disposed of at an officially assigned place. (Please refer to section "How to remove the built-in rechargeable batteries".) This product is manufactured to comply with the radio interference requirements of the council directive 87/308/EEC. 4 General description (fig. 1, page 3) A Shaving unit with three shaving heads. Each shaving head consists of a guard and a cutter. B Green pilot light. Illuminates whilst the shaver is connected to the mains supply (for charging or shaving directly from the mains). C On/Off switch. The shaver is prevented from being switched on accidentally by the locking device incorporated in the switch. - On: keep the locking knob on the switch pressed-in and slide the switch upwards. - Off: slide the switch downwards. D Mains cord. Using the mains cord you can connect the shaver to any mains voltage between 100 and 240 Volts AC (for charging and shaving). E Connector. When using the mains cord insert the small plug firmly into the connector up to the indication mark. F Trimmer. The trimmer can be switched on whilst the motor is running. - Switch on by moving the slide (f) upwards. - Switch off by moving the slide downwards. - Brush the trimmer clean after use. G Brush. Refer to section "Maintenance and cleaning" for correct usage. H Protective cap. Keep the protective cap on the shaver when not in use. Shaving tips for a close, quick and comfortable shave · The best results are obtained if the skin is dry. So preferably shave before washing or some time afterwards. · If required, apply a preshave lotion. This can be particularly helpful if the climate is warm and humid. · The Philishave system gives you a quick, close and comfortable shave. Just move the shaving unit quickly over the skin. · For the best results stretch the skin to bring the hairs into an upright position. Then move the shaving unit against the direction of the growth of the hairs. 5 · The trimmer has been especially designed for grooming sideburns, moustache and beard. The trimmer is not required for long hairs in the neck area; these hairs can easily be shaved off with the shaving unit. Charging · We advise you to charge the batteries at temperatures between 5° C and 35° C (40° F and 95° F respectively). Charging at temperatures outside this range will reduce the lifetime of the rechargeable batteries. · Keep the cassette open if you charge the appliance in it. - Slide the on/off switch (C) downwards. - Insert the small plug firmly into the connector (E) up to the indication mark. - Then connect to the wall socket. The green pilot light (B) will come on. After 8 hours the shaver will be fully charged. This allows cordless shaving for a period of about 2 weeks. The number of shaves per charge is dependent upon your beard type and shaving time. Regular cleaning has a beneficial effect on this. (See section "Maintenance and cleaning".) It will not harm the appliance if it remains connected to the mains supply (max. 4 weeks). Shaving directly from the mains - Slide the on/off switch (C) downwards. - Connect the appliance to a wall socket. - Then switch the appliance on. Maintenance and cleaning (fig. 2-17 on pages 40 and 41) · Always switch the shaver off before carrying out maintenance or cleaning. · The rotating cutter blades of the Philishave system keep 6 the shaved stubble neatly inside the shaving unit. Every three months If your skin is of an oily type or if you have been using a preshave lotion, this procedure should be carried out once a month. Fig. 6. Pull the shaving unit from the shaver. Fig. 7. Press the wheel downward and turn it anti-clockwise (see the arrow). Then lift the cluster frame holding the shaving heads from the shaving unit. Fig. 8. Slide one shaving head (guard and cutter) out of the frame. Keep your finger under the shaving head to prevent the cutter from falling out of the guard. Fig. 9. Keep the guard and cutter together because each pair has been especially ground to match each other. If the guards and cutters are mixed, it may take a couple of weeks before optimal shaving performance is restored. Fig. 10. Hold the cutter as shown... Slide the shaving head back into place. Then clean the other two shaving heads one by one in the same way. Fig. 14. Replace the cluster frame with the shaving heads. Do not forget to secure the cluster frame by pressing the wheel downward and turning it clockwise. Fig. 15. Do not apply any pressure to the guards when replacing the shaving unit on to the shaver. 7 Fig. 16. If you have used a degreasing liquid (e.g. alcohol) to clean the shaving heads, or if your skin is very dry, lubricate the guards with one drop of light machine oil. Every six months Fig. 17. Put two drops of light machine oil on the teeth of the trimmer. Replacement shaving heads Worn or damaged shaving heads must be replaced only with the original Philips replacement heads type HP 1917. How to remove the built-in rechargeable batteries (when discarding the appliance) (fig. 18-21, page 42) - Remove the plug from the wall socket. - Push the trimmer slide (f) upwards (fig. 18). - Unscrew the two countersunk screws at the back side of the shaver. For this purpose you can use a small screwdriver (width approx. 2 mm) or a Torx T-8 type screwdriver (fig. 19). - Remove the back plate of the appliance (fig. 20). - Remove the two rechargeable batteries (fig. 21). You will recognise the batteries by the three arrows symbol. Le cordon d'alimentation permet d'utiliser l'appareil sur des tensions secteur de 100 à 240 Volts AC. E Connecteur. Enfoncez bien la fiche dans le connecteur jusqu'au repère. F Tondeuse. La tondeuse peut être mise en service pendant que le moteur fonctionne. - Pour cela, faites glisser le curseur (f) vers le haut. - Pour l'arrêter, ramenez le curseur vers le bas. - Nettoyez la tondeuse avec la brosse après chaque utilisation. G Brosse. Lisez le chapitre "Entretien et nettoyage" pour utiliser correctement la brosse. H Capot de protection. Remettez le capot sur l'unité de rasage après chaque utilisation. Conseils de rasage pour un rasage rapide, agréable et de très près. · On obtient les meilleurs résultats quand la peau est bien sèche. Il est donc préférable de se raser avant de se laver ou quelque temps après. · Utilisez éventuellement une lotion de pré-rasage, ce qui assure un rasage plus agréable, particulièrement en climat chaud et humide. · Le système Philishave vous assure un rasage rapide, agréable et de très près. Déplacez rapidement la tête de rasage sur la peau. 10 · Pour obtenir un meilleur rasage, tendez la peau pour redresser les poils et rasez à rebrousse-poils avec des mouvements circulaires. · Utilisez la tondeuse pour les favoris, la moustache et la barbe. Il n'est pas nécessaire d'utiliser la tondeuse pour éliminer les longs poils du cou; ceci peut être fait avec les têtes de rasage. Recharge · Les meilleures conditions thermiques de charge des accumulateurs sont atteintes à des températures ambiantes situées entre 5° C et 35° C. Si toutefois vous deviez charger vos accumulateurs en dehors de ces 2 températures extrêmes, leur durée de vie en serait affectée. · Laissez le coffret de rangement ouvert si vous rechargez votre rasoir en le laissant à l'intérieur. - Glissez l'interrupteur marche/arrêt (C) vers le bas. - Enfoncez la fiche dans le connecteur (E) jusqu'à la ligne repère. - Branchez ensuite sur le réseau. Le témoin lumineux vert (B) s'allume. Une recharge complète de 8 heures vous permet d'utiliser le rasoir sans cordon pendant environ 2 semaines. Le nombre de rasages par charge dépend de votre type de barbe et du temps de rasage. Un nettoyage régulier a une influence favorable sur la durée de vie de votre rasoir (voir le chapitre "Entretien et nettoyage"). Il n'est pas nuisible de laisser l'appareil sous tension après la charge (maximum 4 semaines). Rasage avec le cordon d'alimentation - Glissez l'interrupteur marche/arrêt (C) vers le bas. - Branchez l'appareil au secteur. - Mettez ensuite l'interrupteur sur marche. 11 Entretien et nettoyage (fig. 2-17, pages 40 et 41) · Débranchez toujours l'appareil avant tout entretien. · Les têtes rotatives du rasoir Philips ont l'avantage de garder tous les poils coupés à l'intérieur de l'unité de rasage.
