Important Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and save them for future reference. Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance. Keep this appliance away from water! Do not use this product near or over water contained in baths, washbasins, sinks etc. If you use it in a bathroom, unplug the appliance after use, since the proximity of water presents a risk, even when the appliance is switched off. For additional protection we advise you to install a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA in the electrical circuit supplying the bathroom. Ask your installer for advice. If the appliance overheats, it will switch off automatically. Unplug the appliance and let it cool down for a few minutes. Before you switch the appliance on again, check the grille to make sure it is not blocked by fluff, hair, etc. Check the condition of the mains cord regularly. Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance. If the mains cord is damaged, the appliance must be discarded. Always make sure that the attachments are completely dry - on the inside as well as on the outside - before you connect them to the styler. The attachments will become hot during use. Prevent contact with the skin. Never block the air grille. Keep the appliance out of the reach of children. Always unplug the appliance after use. Wait until the appliance has cooled down before storing it. Noise level: L= 83 dB(A) re 1pW ENGLISH Before using the appliance 5 Before you start using the Airstylist, comb or brush the hair so that it is untangled and smooth. The Airstylist is most effective when the hair is slightly damp. When your hair is dry, slightly dampen it. Never use the appliance on wet hair! Do not insert the mains plug into the wall socket until after you have connected the attachment. Using the appliance Drying 1 Make sure the appliance is unplugged. Connect the concentrator to the styler by aligning the arrows on the concentrator with the arrows on the styler and pressing the concentrator home.You will hear a click (fig. 1). The concentrator allows you to dry your hair easily. 2 Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ for a gentle, warm airflow or setting 6 for a stronger and warmer airflow (fig. 2). 3 When you have finished drying, switch the appliance off.Then remove the concentrator by pressing the release button and pulling the concentrator in the direction of the arrow (fig. 3). Follow this procedure for all attachments. Making curls in short to medium-length hair We advise you to perform a curl test to determine how long the brush should be held in your hair to achieve a good result. Start with 8 to 10 seconds.You may have to hold the brush in your hair longer for tighter curls. Less tight curls will require less than 8 seconds. 1 Make sure the appliance is unplugged. Connect the retractable bristle brush to the styler by aligning the arrows on the brush with the arrows on the styler and pressing the brush home.You will hear a click. 6 ENGLISH 2 Divide the hair into locks. 3 Take a lock of hair and wind it round the brush. Make sure the end of the lock is wound in the required direction. - Do not wind too much hair around the brush at a time. - The thinner the lock of hair, the tighter the curl will be. - Do not wind a lock of hair more than twice round the brush. - Make sure the lock of hair is in contact with the barrel of the brush. If you wind the hair at right angles to the scalp, you will give your hair optimum lift and volume. 4 Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6. 5 Keep the brush in your hair until the hair is warm to the touch. 6 Switch the appliance off and remove the brush from your hair by pushing and turning the bristle retraction knob in the direction of the arrows (fig. 4). As soon as the hair feels dry, you can fix your style by means of the cool airflow. Set the slide to setting 6 (blue) to cool down and fix the curls (fig. 5). 7 If you have not used the cool airflow, let the curls cool down before combing, brushing or finger-combing the hair to finish your style (fig. 6). Making waves in long hair 1 Take the ends of a lock of hair and wind them round the retractable bristle brush in the desired direction. 2 Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6. 3 As soon as the hair is warm to the touch, switch the appliance off and carefully remove the brush from your hair by pushing and turning the bristle retraction knob. You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair to cool down and fix the waves. ENGLISH 4 Let the waves cool down before combing, brushing or fingercombing the hair to finish your style (fig. 7). Volume 1 Use the shape & volume brush to add maximum volume and body to your hair. The shape & volume brush is suitable for straight and wavy hair of any length, but especially for long hair. For longer-lasting results, you can apply some mousse before styling your hair. 7 2 Place the brush in the hair. 3 Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6. 4 Brush against the direction of hair growth while touching your scalp with the brush pins (fig. 8). 5 Move the brush away from your head while turning the brush. This will cause the hair to be lifted and to fall lightly back onto the head, creating maximum volume. You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair. Polishing and shaping 1 Use the large cushion brush to polish and shape your hair (fig. 8). Root lift 1 Place the brush in your hair in such a way that the brush pins touch your scalp. 2 Switch the appliance on by selecting setting ~ or 6. 3 Starting at the front, brush backwards and forwards along the centre parting (fig. 9). You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair. 8 ENGLISH Soft flowing hair 1 Lift the hair on the sides of your head at the roots and follow the length of the hair with the styler. This technique will tame stray ends and helps promote shine and softness. You can finish off by directing a cool airflow at the hair. Cleaning 1 Unplug the appliance. 2 Put the appliance in a safe place and let it cool down. 3 Clean the appliance with a small brush or a dry cloth. Storage 1 Unplug the appliance. 2 Make sure the appliance has cooled down sufficiently before storing it. 3 Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance. 4 The appliance can be stored by hanging it from its hanging loop (fig. 10).
